By removing the ban from development of onshore wind farms in 2024, the UK needs to increase its onshore wind capacity to 30 gigawatts (GW) by 2030 to meet its goal of decarbonising electricity. This is a doubling of the UK's current onshore wind capacity of 15 GW.
BATTERY STORAGE
As wind and solar power become dominant in the energy mix, battery systems ensure grid stability, reduce reliance on fossil fuel backup, and enhance energy security. To meet its Clean Power 2030 targets, the UK needs to install at least 30 GW of battery storage capacity by 2030. Investing in large-scale and distributed battery solutions will future-proof the energy system while lowering carbon emissions.
